    *** Vintage WRUW July 2018 ***

Nobody awake yet between Australia and Europe? Perhaps the watches all show the 31st of June?

So, let me begin with that one at almost 10 a.m. local time here: 1960s Lanco hand wind, movement Langendorf 1004N, f = 19.800 A/h.

Is that new to you or is my memory going pear shaped?

    Matt

Oh and on a side note, why do pears get the bum wrap all the time? I think that it should be a random fruit used in the saying, Kumquats for instance, no one uses them to describe anything.

Ok random thought of the day over

I bought it three long years ago. However, I do admit that I haven't been wearing it often. I did for a while, then...the mainspring snapped. Apparently a flaw in these movements - some had mainsprings from a faulty batch. Had it serviced by my friend last year - the watch has been equipped with a new mainspring, new back gasket, and a crystal with a tension ring (had fogging issues, so I wanted to have it protected from humidity as much as possible).

My vintage Mido. It's surprisingly a real good time keeper in the neighborhood of 3-4 Seconds / day. I have not opened the back, but I believe it's a bumper movement.

    Re: *** Vintage WRUW July 2018 ***

Busmatt got me a little worried about my English, asking to describe things not as 'pear shaped' but 'kumquat shaped'. Kum what?

Well, I finally found out that this is not 'Broad Norfolk', but indeed the correct English spelling of the Cantonese-Chinese word 'kam kwat' (golden orange) with its special shape and color.

Guess what, I even found an appropriate watch in my collection:

1970s Jump Hour watch, Lasser, Ravisia Switzerland, allegedly NOS, but as there are so many around, this is hard to believe. The movement inside is a cal. BF 582 (Baumgartner), a 1 jewel pin-lever type with an unusually high f=21.600 A/h (for that type of movement I guess). Runs extremely well, beat error 0.1 ms and an amplitude well over 300.

The original wristband is marked 'U.S. Polo Association'. This is the governing body of the sport of Polo in the USA, who also have their own line of fashion products etc.

The watch will get a little time on the wrist today (as long as I am still in the house and not out in public).
