    1918 Hamilton Railroad Pocket Watch

I normally do not buy pocket watches as I am somewhat out of my element/league, but this came up at an estate sale. The price seemed too good to turn down, so I took the plunge. This is the seller's photo as I do not have it in my clutches yet. Sorry, no movement pic either. It apparently runs and is gold filled (don't know whether it is 10K or 14K). I will likely sell it to raise funds for a Zodiac 36000 SST Sea Wolf diver that is next on my list of vintage watches to own and wear.

Edit: 10K or 14K gold filled, that is. Doubtfully solid gold.

Nice looking Pocket watch. But more likely would be a 992. The 992B I believe did not go into production until about 1940. Or else the date is not correct. Just check the movement and serial number.

I agree. The case is a Hamilton model 11. I believe a 992 would never have been sold in that model case. A 992B would be correct though.

    As a point of reference...this is my 1907 992 in a model 11 case.

Thanks guys. The estate sale rep says she took the watch to an appraiser who opened it and cross referenced the serial number with his book on PWs. That's all I know, but will post photos of the movement when I get it. Does one open this one up by unscrewing the case back or some other way?

You guys are right. It was made in 1946. I looked up the serial number. I misunderstood the estate sale rep who said the mechanics were all good, but it just needed a clean. I interpreted her statement as it runs, which it does not. She told me her appraiser told her that the "mechanics" were good and that all it needs is a clean. The movement is very shiny, so hard to believe it's that dirty. A COA perhaps.

Let me know if there is anything else you see that is worth mentioning. I read somewhere that some of the center wheels are solid gold, though not sure about this one.

Not sure what I will ultimately do with it, but I had not owned a PW until now. I am saving up for another watch, so this one might have to be sold off for funds.
