    1953 LeCoultre Futurematic Black Dial

I was just looking for some information on this watch that I picked up. It is gold filled with the black dial, and in research I have found that the black dial is more rare than the silver tone or white. Is this true? It is in great condition with short lugs, and I recently serviced it and made some repairs on the winder and crown. Thanks for your help! Unfortunately I cannot post pictures now but maybe later!

Since noone else is posting, I will attempt to give some input. All I can say is that most of the ones I have seen have been silver dial - in both versions (Cal. 497 with small second hand & power reserve by hand, Cal. 817 with both displays by rotating disc under the dial). However, if you scour the net, you can find several black ones as well.

Well, I've looked around on the net and if those prices are right, well, I got a great deal!! Fantastic watch with a fantastic history. Any more info would be great. I've tried an all JLC forum but alas there has been no help...

    Never fear, gatorcpa is here!

I love the Futurematic, own one of each caliber. When they are in proper tune they are incredibly accurate watches. Both mine are well within chronometer specs on the wrist.

Here are some good links for information on the Futurematics:
