    1958 last good U.S. Elgin

Just learned about the free sprung special balance 730 Elgin. Well described in trusted-forwarder.org/elgin/history/fm/730A.jpg. $350. got a good gold one. seller's photos. Thought others like me would not know about this technical improvement just before U.S. Elgin died. The web site may be best reached by googling 730a Elgin. It is a good one showing a couple Ranfft informative photos. I now have 1868 and 1958 Elgin best gold cased examples. Both actually fairly common but to me interesting.

    beautiful watch.

elgin's durabalance found it's way into several calibers. you can tell by the upside-down lollipop logo- or a 'd' and a 'b' put back to back for the linguists out there- on the dial. the 730a is the most well-known, but many of the 7** movement series had them. the 760/761 are the free-sprung autos. i've been keeping an eye out for 752 or 777 with a sweep second hand.

    congratulations on your new watch.

Appreciate your detailed knowledge sharing. I know no one else lately that was influential enough to cause a purchase.

You have your specialist expertise as do thousands of others in this forum. Which is the advantage of the forum: the group combo of intelligence. Less a factor in this kind of forum is the usual inferiority of the mass mentality. I have long been a careful but broadbased collector and superficial about functional and technical details so I am truly limited in scope.
