    Question A 1987 watch model

    Hi folks !

I'm currently willing to buy a nice gift for my girlfriend... a watch from her year of birth... 1987
but i can't find one... i've heard that the S/EL series, from tag heuer, was designed in 1987, but i'm not sure, it would be cool, if i could be sure the watch i'm buying was made in the late 80's....

Do you guys have an idea of a watch made in 1987, still working, maybe automatic ? and where i should be able to find it, on the internet ?

and for men ? (as i'm born in 1987 also...)

    Greetings,

    P.M.

PS : excuse my poor english : it's not my native language....

It is difficult to date many watch brands.

Probably the easiest to date are Seiko and Bulova

Some other high end brands can provide dates but it requires opening the watch to get the serial number and contacting the manufacturer.

I don't think Tag Heuer watches can be dated.

    Thank you for quick reply....

It does not have to be a tag. I said tag, because it was the only idea i had... but i keep searching, and no sign of a watch of decent quality, built in 1987, or late 80's....

1987 was sort of a strange time for watch marketing. Digitals were big, Swatch was popular, the mechanical "revival" hadn't really taken off yet.
Alain Silberstein was just getting started. Tissot was making watch dials out of mother of pearl (and wood). All in all not a great Vintage time.

You have lots of choices. The TAG Heuer S/EL (Sports Elegance) was introduced about 1987.

Tissot made watches out of rocks then too...

"The watch has to be surrounded by a history.
You need more than just a great design. You need to create an atmosphere around the product.
Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?
People need to be able to identify the watch with themselves. It's based on emotion." - Ralph Furter

...that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before and will be again and might be now!

I bought my RockWatch while working at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987. The movement is the same ETA they put in the Movado Museum watch.
Also have a WoodWatch from 1988. Both work perfectly today and are great pieces of vintage quartz history. Was lucky to get a new strap for the RockWatch when they still had parts for these.

Looks like Bulova might be a good choice for you, if you can find a watch with P7 stamped on the case. That would be a 1987 manufacture.
