1st French Watch in my collection

Just came in the mail a couple a days ago. Late 60's Mortima. She is pretty clean, has some signs of wear, running great, keeping spot on time.
Big Thanks to John for your advice on French watches.

I'll get better pics later, just had to take a couple to show you guys.

    Hi Chris

Congratulations in joining the "French club", you certainly seem to have made an excellent first choice! The first of many I hope.

That looks like an excellent example of the SuperDatomatic, a good find indeed. Mortima had a reputation for a certain "boldness" in design during the heyday of the French watch industry, and the SuperDatomatics came in a wide variety of designs, including divers and a very nice one, the "Starmaster", which was a "worldtime" version, with an internal bezel and two crowns. I know of a couple of French guys who've based their entire collection around the SuperDatomatics, and there are some more lovely ones to be found.

I would guess that yours has the 17 jewel version of the C66, and there's a good technical download here, Cousins UK - Document Downloads

As you know I try to have one example from as many French makers as I can, I don't have a SuperDatomatic, but here's my Mortima:

I know you have an interest in Marseille, so you might be interested in this one of mine, a VEC, made in Marseille in the 1950's

i hope I'll see some more photos of your first Frenchie, and maybe some others in the future

    All the best

That looks in nice shape. Congrats.

That strap looks rather interesting - can we see that more fully?

Re: 1st French Watch in my collection

OK good news and bad, the good news is I think I have worked out the kinks in my camera, the bad, when I took the second batch of photos after I put the case back, back on the watch STOPPED!!
It won't start back up, I didn't do anything harsh. I don't get it, it was running perfect these past four days, It didn't miss a beat until now. ?????
Anyway, on to some better photos, will keep up updated. Thanks Marrick for your help on the photo size question I had.

    That's a really unusual strap - I like it.

Try taking the back off again - maybe the movement ring is just fouling the balance a tad and stopping it running.
