2nd Arrival.... Cyma.... odd shock-absorber? Info wanted!

    Hi Guys,

The other watch waiting for me today was this Cyma....

    Im unsure about this watch....

The case looks like is could be missing a outer bezel... but at the same time, looks right? As the crown is inset into the case, Im not sure how an additional bezel would fit - or am i just going mad?

The size is a little small at 30mm across (excl crown) but 40mm lug to lug... the lug with of 16mm is not bad.... but I think a bund type strap would suit it well - especially because of the military style (yes, thats why it caught my eye ).

As for the movement.... Im unsure! I can see there is something under the balance, but without removing it, I cant make it out! It looks very similar to the 234 cal used in the military WWW watches?

The odd thing with the movement (I have not seen it before), is there seems to be an additional arm that is pinned to the balance cock and sits onto the top balance endstone... is this what they mean by 'shock absorber' on the dial?? This may be common and I have just not come across it, so please excuse my ignorance if thats the case!

Info - movement ID, date, etc would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks for looking,

    Marc

    Not odd. Cymaflex

My bumper (1950s) and many Cyma of this period have it.

P.S. I will not make 2K posts before xmas.

I have found Cyma and Tavannes to be nicely made watches (I have two). I think the watersport was pretty popular in the 1940s-1950s which would be when I guess your watch is from.

I can see what you mean about the bezel. Maybe an old advertisement or something would show it?

This is CYMA ref 414KA no doubt
It is very easy to recognize
    23.7 diameter
This is not the W.W.W military type like 214/234
the 234 diameter is 26.5 mm

    Hi there,

when invented by Breguet some 200 years ago, this shock device looked like this:

Then it was forgotten some 150 years and came back as Parechoc (LeCoultre) or Cymaflex (Cyma):
