    60's/70's Period-Correct Strap/Bracelet

Hi guys, just trying to get some opinions on an appropriate period-correct strap/bracelet for a newly acquired IAXA dive chronograph (Valjoux 7734 movement) from the late sixties or early seventies. Currently on a NATO, but not feeling it. Lug width is 21mm (odd).

Because of its mix of racing chronograph/diver characteristics I think it could go two ways.

Either a rubber tropic or steel mesh for the diver side or a steel rally bracelet for the chronograph side.

I tend to lean towards a steel option if possible but I am very curious to find out what was OEM on these types of hybrid watches during those decades.

    Cheers for your time.

    How I see it

    - Strap width and lug width must be a perfect match. Currently nato is a bad match
    - This watch has nothing to do with diving
    - Mesh bracelet in the photo is for a dress watch
    Chaos is my focus

    Nice watch!
And all those straps would work for me - pick the one(s) that make you happy

Don’t get too hung up on ‘period correctness’

I grew up in the 70s/80s and have a laugh at those Tweed Run bike guys who do up their 80s road bikes like it was the 1890s!

Yes, we had nylon, and everything

The NATO is 20mm, lug width is 21mm. However the lugs are quite hidden so I think I could get away with it.

I was under the impression it was used as a diver as well: diving bezel, screw down crown and 20ATM pressure rating?

The mesh is probably my least desirable option for that reason.

Yeah I try not to, but my OCD kicks in sometimes haha. If I can pick one that is pretty appropriate and makes me happy, I'll go for that one

An NSA bracelet (if the budget is not tight) would be the best steel option, otherwise a grey suede strap would look killer imho

I hear you re the OCD

There are 21mm NATOs out there - I see Zuludiver do some

If you’re sticking with standard widths, go up one, rather than down (so no gap):

Smiths W10 with 17mm lugs on an 18mm NATO

More period correct would be a single thickness perlon:

    17mm vintage perlon

TimesofPlenty on eBay (a WUS member) does a good selection
He and classwatchstrap do a great selection of vintage straps and bracelets

    Good luck with the hunt!

Have you thought of the other sort of rally?

This is from Timefactors, good quality and inexpensive

Also, recent looks on the Strela:

    70s leather rally

    70s steel rally

    Cushion case looks:

    Workshop made

    Condor strap

Steel mesh...sure. Rally, either steel or leather...yep. I'm thinking beads of rice...the ultimate 60's/70's racer/chrono bracelet.

Nice, did not notice those! Mesh could be ok but you should try those more massive ones

Personally, I don't like that watch on a NATO and would go for a 22mm tropic strap.
