    Affordable Vintage Watch

Hi Everyone, im searching around on ebay for a nice vintage watch. Im looking at low price options of less than £30 if possible as i am looking to get a nice collection going. I have seen a few Smiths watches and Oris watches in this price bracket. I want something with a bit of heritage thats not going to break the bank. Im looking for any suggestions on particular watches or brands i should look out for? Thanks in advance

Smiths and Oris... Well, with these two brands, under 30 quid you're looking at watches with pin-lever movements. In this case, I'd recommend Oris. Due to a change in the Swiss law at some point, they were forced to produce pin-lever movements only. That led to Oris improving the pin-lever, and making good quality movements, one of which even was certified as a chronometer by the Neuchatel Observatory.
Frankly, there's a lot of stuff to find around the 30 quid mark. Timex, maybe a Caravelle, Poljot... Also a lot of pretty common Swiss ones, by brands hardly anyone has ever heard of, with generic movements from ETA, Felsa, AS...

Tissot and Certina are in that price range here in Sweden but not serviced of course. You won't get the finer models but you can get the generic and budget models.

If you are willing to clean and polish and putting on straps yourself you can get away with less.

Here is a lot of watches I won a few days ago. A 70's Citizen, an early 50's Certina and a 80's Moretime analog/digital watch then 2 watches that go into the big box of junk. The picture is bad so this is why I could snatch if for so little.

I'm still waiting for them so they could be just junk (not likely) but for less then £10 I'd take a chance every time.

Here is a nice old 50's Tissot I got last week and it was also just under £10. This type of patina isn't everyone's cup of tea but I just love it.

I'll agree with agriff10 on Bulova. Picked this one up for $40 US on the bay. Ugly bracelet discount.

Edit: And that's in full running condition, too. I'm not going to count the Accutron I bought for $40 that needed a $200 service and crystal or the Vantage Electric for $30 that needs a $300 service by the only guy in the US who can do it.
