    Airline watches. Who used what?

    Hello all.

Reading about the airline SAS did go for Universal Geneve Polerouter as their official watch made me interested in other official airline watches.

I know KLM did go for Flying Dutchman, made by Marvel.
What about Lufthansa? Swiss airlines and so one, what i´did they go for?

Reading about these watches and looking at old postes, sure tells the story of a different time. No such thing as a Polenrouter of Flying Dutchman these days......

Onsa made some watches for Sabena. Not all Seven o Seven Onsa watches had Sabena on the back though.

Urban legend claims that the Solar "King of Wings" (a rebranded Tudor in an Oyster case) was originally designed as a special-order item for Canadian Airlines pilots...haven't seen any solid confirmation of that though.

If I remember correctly, Pan-Am pilots quite often wore Pierce chronographs, but was that an issue watch, or was Pierce just a popular choice for a privately purchased watch, I don't know.

Not sure if it is official or not, but Seiko and ANA did a collaboration in early 2000s.

Though not vintage, I've seen a TWA branded Seiko Kinetic. The TWA logo was made of gold and soldered onto the bracelet.

There are some pictures of one of the originally issued SAS Polerouters here:

I've see Gruen ads that featured Pan American Airways planes with the Gruen Pan Am watch:

A later Gruen, the Air Flight II, had some dials made for American Airlines:

Don't know if these were actually issued to pilots.
