    Allegro/Zenith connection query

I recently bought this Allegro NOS piece from the bay. It has a esa 9162 movement marked Zenith, as is the crown and inside case back. Just wondered if anyone knew of the relationship between Zenith and Allegro. The most information I have so far is that AFAIK the Zenith watch brand was sold by Zenith Radio Corporation US to the Dixi Group in 1978. With the condition that no Zenith branded watches were to be sold in the USA. I bought the watch from America so this explanation makes perfect sense. Does anyone know any more?

    Here's a few pics:

P.S. I'll post this topic in the Zenith forum as well.

You're right that Allegro was a Zenith brand but I'm not sure if these watches weren't being produced during the period when Zenith watch was still owned by the Zenith Radio Co. Note that Zenith Radio also had an Allegro brand which was used on a lot of electronic products: TVs, stereos, etc.

It's a very nice watch and definitely looks to be in NOS condition. Great find!

I wondered why when I did a google search for Allegro I got a lot of sites about VCR's and stereo's , now it's all beginning to make sense. Thanks for the info Jim.

As both Axel and yourself noticed it's in superb condition, the only blemish being a small, light scratch on the case back by the crown (as seen in pic #3) which would polish out easily. I have to admit that I'm almost too scared to wear it, I'd hate to be the first person to damage it after 30 years of being pristine, it doesn't bear thinking about .

    Cheers

    Gary
