    Am I missing something here?

I know that eBay and eBay buyers are, shall we say, inconsistent measures of quality and value. But I see a piece of crap like this "Eterna-Matic" (that I posted to another thread), mislabled, terrible redial, movement visibly falling apart, already with 10 bids:

RARE 1958 CERTINA ETERNA-MATIC AUTOMATIC MILITARY BUBBLE-BACK VINTAGE MENS WATCH | eBay

Then I see this unremarkable, slightly beat up, but kind of cool "Eterna-Matic" sold for $34 with 5 bids:

Vintage ETERNA-MATIC Automatic, 17j, Mens wrist watch, Swiss made.

    I mean, what gives?

The first auction is a private listing - bidders' identities protected - no way to tell what's going on with that bidding. I like their line, "MOST OF OUR ITEMS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE BUT WE BRING THEM TO EBAY AUCTION'S TO RISK IT ALL...". They're not risking much with this one. "1958 Certina Model Military Dial Circle Dot 60-Sec Inner Dial Markers amazing history on this one...." Yeah, the history of when Bubba thought it'd be good to stick an inner chapter ring right through the top of the Eterna logo. Some great history there.

Agree with Gumby, very dubious listing for the first nonsense, the second a good deal for someone out there.

10 bids, but currently the high bid is $51.00 (seven hours to go). So, there may simply be a few people who like the way it looks and are willing to buy it for short money.

As for the other one, there are plenty of undervalued Eternas sold on a regular basis. And bear in mind that many with modest funds for collecting are suffering further from the poor economy, and the lower end of the market is declining as a result.

Agreed. I see some really good ones end with no bids and others that well, look like crap go into a bid war.

Huge difference in condition. There is very bad damage to the bezel of the second listing (at 6 o'clock) and the rotor is all scratched up. The case on the first one is really nice. Also, IMO, the dial of the second one is much less attractive.

the second is a redial as well.

and equally egregious in my opinion as it appears as though the 5 dot logo has been painted on. for watches in that timeframe, the logo should be in relief.

Re: Am I missing something here?

The second one is redialed as already noted
And it was USA only auction. I have some shocking news here: The world is not only USA :O So non USA bidders are simply out of scope
    Chaos is my focus

My fav from seller's collection is Minty-Rare Elgin with tacky redial.
