Ancient Doxa watch i recieved off my grandfather

    Hi,
I have recently received a very old Doxa watch from my grandfathers estate after he passed away from old age. He got the watch as a young man. I am curious if anyone has any information on this model. I would estimate its age at 1920s-1930s.
I have provided links to 3 photos of it below. (he wore it all his life so it has definitly seen better days)

    2) http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1227/rimg0010zn8.jpg
    3) http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/9569/rimg0013mf0.jpg

serial number on the back of the watch is 5134557

I have already sent off an email to [email protected] requesting an RMA form so i can send it off to get repaired at the vintage restoration center in Vienna and was told they lost all records of old watches due to a major flood in the early 1970s. Any information that could be provided on this old watch would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

I would estimate it from 1940s

I have one that looks similar but your photos of the dial aren't in focus enough for a positive ID.

The back shot is clear .. try taking another dial shot from slightly further away and crop out everything but the watch with photo editing software.

My impression is that Doxa a good quality movements but have gained a heck of a lot more popularity in recent years

It's really hard to see from the photos but I would think 1940s at the very earliest. It looks to me like the 1950s but I cannot be sure. A photo of the movement itself is often necessary for more accurate ID.
    Thanks for posting.

I have one that looks about the same age and has the exact same logo

It has a 17J manual wind movement labelled 381 that I haven't been able to ID from the back. Bestfit lists several Doxa calibres but not a 381.

If the 381 relates to the movement, the most likely candidate is probably the FEF 381:

I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but here is the movement shot from mine. The 381 is stamped under the balance wheel.

So it does look to be a FEF 381

Here is a photo of it with the back off. Pretty much looks identical to the shot you have provided bjohnson

Your movement looks more like my other one that is a 17J marked 147
