Any info on this Hamilton would be appreciated

I posted this in the Hamilton forum, but thought I should try here as well.

This belongs to a friend. Itís a family watch. Not looking for value, he really just wants to know years/model.

Does it really say Nov 10, 1989 on the back, or am I reading that wrong?

Yes. The watch was given to my friend on that date. The watch was already old by then.

Well, I'm not in much of a hunting mood, so here's where I'd go hunting:

    I believe it's an early 1940s Russell.

The square case is what's called a 'tank' watch. A style very popular in the 1930s and 40s, and somewhat in the 1950s. So somewhere between 70-80 years old, give or take a year or two.
"Pipes are occasionally of extraordinary interest...nothing has more individuality save, perhaps, watches and bootlaces."

    - Sherlock Holmes.

+1 on the Hamilton Russell. It is 1940. The dial changed in 1941 to a two-toned look.

Also, I real keeper. I collected 40ís era Hamiltonís in the late Ď80s when I had the Emerson, Ardmore and Boulton. I sold them and regret it to this day.
