Any info on this North Star?

Ran some searches and the only information I can find is that it is a French brand. The movement says "Brevets" (I believe this means patented) as well as "17 seventeen jewels unadjusted". On the inside of the case back it says "E. Gluck Trading Co. Swiss Made Base Metal". If I'm not mistaken, E Gluck has been around since the 50's and owns several watch brands including Armitron.

This is an automatic. Does not run but will on occasion when handled. Inconsistent. Crown feels very tight as does the bezel.

I'm going to try tinkering on it but was wondering if anyone had any information that I could use.

I used to have an electronic North Star watch. I was under the impression that it was an american brand, sold through department stores as Sears and Roebuck. But I may be wrong.

    It's a cool watch you've got there!

The movement is a Baumgartner BFG 1582; a fairly low-grade movement with a pin-lever escapement, although your example is otherwise fully-jewelled. Day/date is a nice extra for a watch of this kind. The case is chrome-plated brass, so it's clearly not made for really heavy-duty use, but it's decent chrome by the look of it. So this is a low-end but well-featured sports watch made in Switzerland for the US market some time in the early 1970s.

Get it fixed and on your wrist. It's too cool to be left lying idle.
