Question Any info on this Rolex

    Hi,
Been lurking on this forum and find it a joy to visit. Well you guys were the first people I thought of when I found this Rolex in an antique store today.

Unfortunately the pictures aren't clear - phone camera - but hopefully there's enough to identify and value it.

The back of the watch says: Precision Oyster Perpetual Patent (this is in a circle.) Centre of circle is written: Rolex SA Montres

Can anyone shed some light on this model? What is it worth? The salesman is stuck on $1,000.

It needs some service and a change of strap. There didn't seem to be any rust on the inside as envisaged by a cursory glance through the glass.

I don't know anything about Rolex watches but this caught my eye.

    Cheerio,

Sorry but we never give valuations here. Please read our sticky notes for reasons why. I may be wrong but I don't think Rolex makes a watch like this. Never seen one. I'd be suspicious that it's a fake. Others may know more.

+1 what Ray said, this also looks quite strange to me (perhaps if you can sharpen the pics with some kind of software), try to take better pics or post it over the Rolex forum...

Currently there is no Rolex like this in production. This type of Rolex needs to be brought to an authorized dealer to begin the process of determining age ,authentisity, and value.Keep in mind that even the AD sales people may not know about vintage Rolex but its a good place to start...I agree that at this point the watch sould be treated as suspect until proven legitimate....dont hand over any money until authenticated...get a return agreement in writing.

That sure looks like a Chinese movement to me, even with the terrible photos.

Indeed. I have even seen these Chinese skeletonized movements sold as Longines!! The Ukraine has been cranking them out like hotcakes!

As y'all well know, I'm no expert, but I have shopped around for vintage Rolexes and never seen one like this. While I understand they did the occasional display back, I don't think Rolex ever did a skeleton watch.

I'd be willing to bet that $1k that this isn't a real Rolex.

I can only agree with all the replies above - even with the poor quality photos, it screams fake to me. Either take a knowledgeable watch collector with you to take a look at it or just stay away, 99% sure you would regret that purchase!
