    Atlantic Worldmaster

    Hi

First time poster here. I wonder whether one of you fine people would be able to authenticate an Atlantic Worldmaster from the attached photos. I've been offered it for £55 but have no idea whether this is a fair price. I've tried google and ebay but I haven't seen anything exactly matching this watch. There are some reference numbers on the back but I'm having trouble identifying whether one is a 5 6 or 8. Any pointers would be appreciated,

    Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty original to me. This is one of my Worldmasters (also a Varldsmasarur) from a similar era:

Only question would be relating to the hands which may have been re-lumed as they look a little 'bright' compared to the dial.

If you look on Page 37 of this PDF (https://issuu.com/atlanticwatch/docs...27201/50028023), you'll see another similar one - I'm afraid authenticating Atlantics can be a minefield as they produced so many variations and seemed to delight in regularly changing logos and using different names for different markets....

Yes, it appears original, with the exception of the obvious replacement (and inappropriate) crown. In terms of the offer, take the money and run! There are plenty of these on the market, and most collectors would prefer a full steel case.

    Here is one of mine:

My reading of the OP's post is that he's considering buying it for 55gpb, not selling it, but I could have misunderstood. I think it's a collectible watch and the dial is nice, but as Tony mentioned, the plated case has some pretty serious issues, so it's unclear how much you will want to spend on it to get it fully running and restored.

That's why he should run with the money before wasting them :D

    Yes, thanks, I misread it.

    Hi
Could you expand a little more on what makes it an "obvious" replacement?

The large gap between it and the case, the size and style. Note the typical rounded style in the two others posted above. They are correct for this model.

That crown is horrible but nothing that can't be fixed. The good thing with the watch is that the dial is rather nice so a case transplant will make it into a great looking watch again. It's from the 40's and Atlantic used mostly plated cases then but switched to steel as Sweden became richer so the same watch was also made in a steel case version.

Bought on eBay a few days ago.
