Bailey, Banks & Biddle w/Patek Philippe Movement Pocketwatch

My Father is giving me a family heirloom that my Great Grandfather gave him. He is giving it to me for funding my two son's college education...woot! He had it appraised several years back and it came out to somewhere around 50K...though he doubts that it will fetch "near that much" in today's market. Photos are below. I dare not crack the caseback open with my limited knowledge and tools, therefore I don't have pics of the movement. It includes the original display box with Bailey, Banks & Biddle insignia inside, a little pocket of soft material, a gold/platinum chain and gold knife. Here are the few details I know regarding the watch: 'BAILEY, BANKS & BIDDLE' on watch face and caseback. 'Switzerland' at the bottom of the watch face. At the top of the winder where the chain connector is...is has 'PPC' stamped on it (Patek Philippe Company?). On the back of the caseback is engraved 'To XXXX XXXXXXX A Veteran of Veterans Semper Fidelis 1896-1940 From Sun Oil Company'. Can anyone tell me more about this watch? For something like this, you want to take it to a proper appraiser or, if you're actually looking to sell it, to a good auction house who will do it for you. PPC doesn't stand for Patek Phillipe Co, because I don't believe such a company exists. The Swiss company is called Patek Phillippe Sa. But I doubt the case was made by them; I tend to associate the use of the term "Switzerland" on the dial with a movement that was made in Switzerland but cased in the target country. Bailey Banks & Biddle was a very prestigious jewelery chain, best known for designing the "Great Seal of the United States", so it's most likely that they designed the case themselves. That would probably make this watch on the same quality scale as a Tiffany though. It's not impossible that there is a Patek inside, or a Rolex, or similar. Impossible to tell without seeing it though. If your dad had it properly appraised, then he should have a document that describes it. If not, his "appraisal" was probably just someone's opinion.

I figured that much. I really don't want to sell it before I know it's appraisal value. What is the best way to find a professional that can do that for me? I live in the East Texas area. Thanks!

As Rob says, it could well be a Patek, or a Vacheron, or one of any of the other high end Swiss makers. Every BB&B piece I've seen has been a high grade movement, whether American or Swiss.

HERE is a 1908 BB&B with best Patek repeater and split second chronograph. At maximum about $30k. You can easily get recent high grade auction results by googling that will be disappointing for conventional Patek pocket watch from 1940. Yours is a family keeper that can always be used as the best loan colateral. My father and Grandfather had inherited from an uncle a big heavy 18k 1872 Grossman that saw some pawnshop use. 100 years ago a common practice for fine gold watches. This 18k minute repeater actually cost me $3000. 20+ years past and I sold it for a lot less than 30k. Which at that time was about 1/2 of the auction values that I was not smart enough to check at that time. Recent auction results are as good as the best appraiser in my opinion. Not appropriate to value watches here. art b.

I don't think I care to click on that link.
Has this been checked out for authenticity/safety?
I apologise if I am wrong, but post #6 looks dodgy to me.
