    A Bit of Retro 70s Space-Age Binatone

    Greetings,

Picked up this nice cheap vintage Binatone Swiss Made off Ebay for £3.49 including post! Looked in the back and the engine is a BFG Baumgartner 866 1 Jewel, polished the crystal up and put it on tan leather, she's running sweet as a nut! I'm loving the retro 70s space-age case design, it's crazy and sexy at the same time, man !

    Cheers

    Groovy man

I'm assuming you meant 21 jewels and not just 1,as it's got 21 on the dial??

No I did mean 1 jewel, I wish it did have 21 . I've seen it on quite a few watches, they have "21" written on the dial, or another relatively high number, and you assume it's the number of jewels. But they invariably have one jewel in the movement, don't ask me why . I think the number 21 is just there to add something to the dial and make it seem a bit fancier. I don't really mind that it only has 1 jewel, does the job okay and for the money I can't complain. Interestingly, I noticed the movement had "Oberon Watch Co." written on it, I looked it up and apparently they were a Swiss watch company, I found them in one of those really long lists of vintage brands.

That would be a model 21. At least this variant doesn't state "Jeweled" directly underneath the number...

Thanks to advances in machining and metallurgy, modern pin levers are probably as good and robust as the 7 jewel watches of the past.
