    Bucherer Modele Depose value? PICS!

My parents got me this watch about 20 years ago in Switzerland at the Bucherer store in Lucerne, Switzerland IIRC. It's an automatic and I was curious to it's worth today?

It still works perfectly and in mint condition.

    Thanks!

    Hi -

Welcome to the vintage & pocket watch forum!

Please read the sticky note at the top of the forum as to why we don't do valuations here: not fair to you, not fair to the watch.

That said, Bucherer is one of the premier Swiss watch retailers and their own-brand watches are usually very, very good: this looks to be a heavily skeletonized watch with an automatic movement, rather nice indeed...

    Hi -

Nope. It's vintage, and it's not that we don't do valuations, but more than valuations only make sense if it's done by a specialist whose job it is to do such things. You can't do it on the Internet, and above all, a watch that your parents gave you is going to be worth a lot more, emotionally, than anything someone else can pay for.

If you're looking for a valuation for insurance purposes, your friendly qualified local watchmaker can help you.

It obviously has a skeletized version of the ETA 2892 ("obvious" because of the huge ball bearing on the rotor):

...which is I believe still made by ETA today and supplied to anyone who wants it. Alternatively, you can do your own skeletizing job if you want a different skeleton. It looks like Bucherer might have done that - the exact skeleton pattern on your watch doesn't quite match the one in the link.

I sent my Bucherer to Stoll & Co (the authorized service center) for appraisal and cleanup:

I love your watch and the great photos. Are you going to sell it? If you find a value would you send me a private message? I have a 17 jewel, unadjusted Bucherer skeleton watch that is not nearly so elegant for comparison. I bought it at the Bucherer store in Lucerne in 1987 for about $100. It is probably the lowest of the low end of their line at the time, yet I love the skeleton works. The case and (most of) the movement are gold-plated and show no corrosion. The hairspring was damaged in an accident years ago, so it awaits the development of my repair skills. The lint in these two photos is on the inside of the case - my apologies to all for the mess...

Interesting! A Revue Thommen calibre, as shown by the Revue hallmark as well as the "MSR" stamp next to the "Bucherer" on the movement. Cal. T44:

    bidfun-db MSR_T44: MSR T44

MSR are, of course, the "Manufactures Suisses Reunies" (United Swiss Manufacturers) which Revue were part of (along with Phenix, Buser and Vulcain).
