    Bulova Acurra? UPDATE!

Well that's what the auction title read
"vintage Accura watch untested free shipping mens bulova"
It had the 1 starting bid of $25 on it. So I threw a $50 bid on it. Held it to the end with a final bid of $36.35. Description says doesn't know if it runs. Wish me luck! It had 3 pics of the front but only one was legible.

    Nice Bulova Accutron railroad

These are a bit smaller then most accutron watches. It needs a battery with a spacer around it and also the battery sits with the flat side (with the writing) down and the non writing section facing you.

Don't bother with an accucell. Those are a crutch. As long as the watch is serviced and phased, you don't need a accucell

I keep an extra battery for my spaceview. It has the spacer also. By looking at the pics, I doubt very seriously it has been serviced. I will throw the battery in just to see if it works anyway. Then go from there. I caught the auction at the last hour, so it was just a quick bid and wait. The seller doesn't normally sell watches by looking at his other items. Looks like an odd item from his normal stuff of make-up. Doubt he really knew anything about it. Hopefully it will run.

    Re: Bulova Acurra?

Well I got this in today. It was pretty dirty so I cleaned up the case and band a little. The poor thing had an old Accutron 214 solid battery in it. No spacer, so it must have been an original for the time period. There's a little corrosion around the battery seat. I did put a good battery in it but nothing. Tapped it a few times, the second hand would move about 5 seconds at a time and stop. I'm sure it probably needs a service but I can't really afford a service on one of these movements right now. It is a little bigger than I though as the case measures a little over 38mm. The case is marked M5 (1965) and the movement is an M3 (1963). It does look nice though, so I just may put it up until I decide what I'm gonna do with it. I would like to get it running one day. So here's a few of my pics of it. I had to take an angle pic to show the nice blue hands. Also looks to have an original band . Thanks for looking again! Comments? lol

Hi Bobby, not sure about the blue on these hands, but a case size of >38mm is big for a 214. Regardless, for 35 bucks what's not to like?

    Re: Bulova Acurra? UPDATE!

Bsshog40, the movement is the correct "H" (hacking) 214 movement for a railroad approved model. From your pic above, I can't quite see the regulator for the right side cup of the tuning fork. Is it rotated out of sight? From the movement pic it almost appears that the coil wire are different shades, which I've seen before on occasion. Are they, or is that just the light? I've never asked about that when they are. Would that indicate a coil set sent back to Bulova many years ago and perhaps rewound? I would've thought they would just swap in a new set. Hmm, a question I'll have to pose to others.

Yes Arch, the coils are a different color. Also, the left regulator is pointing to 12:00. The right is pointing back at ya.
