    C. B. Tousley and Son Pocket Watch

    Hello Everyone!

I am a very new pocket watch collector and I came across a pocket watch that has the markings "C. B. Tousley and Son" (Fort Atkinson, WI) both on the face and on the back of the movement. My initial research has shown that Tousley and Son was a jeweler in Fort Atkinson which means they did not manufacture this watch but had contracted someone else to make it (or so that's my assumption). Does anyone know how I might find out who manufactured this watch? The case is a Fahy Silver Ore No. 1 case.

    Thank you,
    Matt

Most likely correct. A picture of the movement will likely make it easy to figure out. Show the serial number in the photo if possible.

    Hi and welcome,

As MoreWatches already stated a photo of the movement would be very helpful in determining the manufacturer, type, caliber of the movement. Your research correctly identified the establishment the watch was made for. Further to that - as C. B. Tousley and Son were listed in the Wrights Directory of Jefferson in 1893 we can already safely say that your watch was made in the late 19th century. Cheers

I'm guessing Seth Thomas, someone here will actually know.

    Edit: I think it's a newer model 5.

Re: C. B. Tousley and Son Pocket Watch

According to one internet source s/n 287364 would put its manufacturing date between 1890-1891. But since very little information exists on Seth Thomas pocket watches dating those is a bit of a science. Other sources claim that about 160000 pcs of model 5 were made in total. Still others put model 5 production dates between 1893 and 1896. But just to add to all this - apparently there is also a question mark regarding whether the range of the allocated serial numbers were assigned in strict chronological order. We now know that - it's a ST watch (as others have already identified) that watch was made for Mr C. B. Tousley and he was a watch/clock maker, jeweler listed in Ft. Atkinson Jefferson City directory in 1893.
