Can you tell if a Roamer has an MST (in-house) movement from the outside?

    Hi,

I have my eye on a vintage Roamer watch, I think it may have an MST Roamer manufacture movement in, but I'm not sure. My question to any Roamer enthusiasts/experts is; can you tell if a Roamer has an in-house movement inside from the outside (writing on dial and caseback)? This one is a gold plated RW Roamer, has the Roamer crown symbol above the name Roamer on the dial, Super-Shock on the dial, and "Brevete" and "waterproof" on the case back. And the movement is 17 jewels. Attached is the seller's picture (not very big or well focused I'm afraid). I realise it may not be much to go on, but any help is much appreciated .

    Cheers

All my Roamers and Medanas have got MST movements in them. I can't guarantee it with that one - but its very likely.

If it is a manual super shock, then you should be fine, all that I have seen have had MST movements, usually a 372 or later 414. That said, the photo is terrible, and it is impossible to be certain.

The main example of an outside movement was when they couldn't produce an in-house automatic with date in time, when they used a Felsa as a stopgap. That said, the Felsa movement was fitted wit some MST parts and is an interesting one to collect in its own right. These were in the water-proof cases as well.

I have seen the odd 'non' MST model from later, but they have not had the Water-proof 2 part case and were probably an effort to survive the quartz crisis.

I congratulate you on your interest in acquiring a Roamer - I am very fond of them.
