Canadian Black Watch - What watch was used?

My grandfather was a member of the Canadian Black Watch during WW2. when he passed away his watch was given to family but unfortunately it was lost. I am looking to see if anyone would know the brand and model that would have been standard issue so I can try to acquire one as a gift to my mother. Any help would be great, I have been searching for a while and have had a hard time finding the answers.

If he was issued a watch, it would depend on when, and where it was issued. I emphasize if because a lot of infantrymen bought watches on their own and may have not have had a government issued piece.

If it was government issued, it would most likely have been one of two types:

    1. If issued before shipped overseas, A-11, produced for the Allies by Elgin, Bulova, Waltham, and Hamilton.

    2. If issued (or purchased) after arriving in England (before deployment to France), it could have been an A-11 as above, or the British spec'd W.W.W. (Wrist Watch Waterproof) produced by "The Dirty Dozen" of Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jeager-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex.

The W.W.W. watches are probably not going to be what you are looking for. The first ones weren't delivered to the UK until May 1945, and they were for issue to units with specific needs. More likely, if he was issued a watch in the UK it would be a G.S.T.P. or A.T.P. watch. There's a wealth of information about these on t'interweb, and they are much more widely available (cheaper and less likely to be faked).
    Hope that helps ?

If true, this would be good news for the OP's budget.

Do you have any photos, e.g. of your grandfather wearing the watch? Even if the watch is not very sharp and detailed in the photo, it might provide information that would help narrow things down. I think it will be very difficult for you to get a really definitive answer without more information.

Thanks, based on my mother's recollection we believe it was the Timor watch brand. We are looking through the pictures at home this week to try to see if any contain it. Thanks for the help! The watch was definitely issued by the gov. Was not a private purchase that much we are certain.

Timor did make a W.W.W. (aka "Dirty Dozen") watch similar to the Lemania posted by @ManOnTime.

    Here is one example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1940s-TIMOR....c100005.m1851

...but they also made ATP-spec watches. So, the good question is, if the OP's grandfather had a Timor ATP, or a Timor WWW?

For any inquiries regarding vintage Doxa watches, please read the highlighted text in my vintage Doxa thread. Sorry, but I will not respond to PMs on the matter.
