    Carlowitz & Co.

Today the postman brought me this in solid silver:

I think the movement is 11.5''', Swiss, 15J, nothing under the balance. Anybody recognise it?

The back is plain, and I feel that this has probably always been a wristwatch rather than being a converted PW - but I've been wrong before of course.

Carlowitz and Co. was a major import/export outfit in China and is still going.

The crown may well not be original. But yes, its in good nick - running and, so far, keeping time.

I wonder what the Chinese writing says...

    Silver polishes up so nicely
"Forever is composed of nows." - Emily Dickinson

"The watch has to be surrounded by a history.
You need more than just a great design. You need to create an atmosphere around the product.
Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?
People need to be able to identify the watch with themselves. It's based on emotion." - Ralph Furter

...that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before and will be again and might be now!

I wonder too. Not easy to look up though. I might ask on the Chinese forum if nobody in here can translate for me.

I'll give it a light polish - but not too much - before I put it on its strap.

"Fake Rolex :D" loose translation on the dial hehe ok bad joke :D but I couldn't resist :)

I think they're symbols for good luck (one of them is similar to the Korean symbol for good luck (inside caseback, middle symbol) again I studied Korean not Chinese so I could be horribly off :(

Yet again another of your's that I really like, way outside my limited area of even more limited knowledge. It looks in really good nick, and failing all else, ask in your local Chinese takeaway for a translation

i'll be watching this thread with interest to see what information turns up over the next few day,

    Re: Carlowitz & Co.

Cheers Henry. I've posted a couple of pics in the Chinese forum - but no joy yet. ii8173888 could be right - both with the Rolex joke and the 'good luck' bit. I went on a tour of China a few years ago and they are a bit obsessed with good luck symbols.

As long as its not 'Made in the Ukraine 2009'.
