    Cauny Chronograph (fair value/price)

    Seeking advice from knowledgeable collectors.
What would be a reasonable price to pay for the below Cauny chronograph?
Love the design a lot. Apparently the mins n sec hands has been repainted according to seller.
Hope to get for wearing if price is fair.

Valuations are not allowed here. You may want to search some completed auctions on ebay. Sorry!

Valuations are allowed they just have to come with the rider: whatever price a member says means absolutely NOTHING.

With that said...I don't know the brand. Is this just a cased valjoux?

Cauny is a legit brand but much faded now.
This watch has a Valjoux 7733 heart.

First of all research the overall condition of the watch before even considering on buying it
Hands repainted? How did original look like?
Why are pushers of a different size?
What is the condition of a movement?
The case is a cheap plated brass?
    Chaos is my focus

The Vintage forum is more restrictive about valuations than the rest of the site which is why we have stickies to that effect.

So to elaborate from your point, while it's true that valuations are allowed we do discourage them quite strongly unless someone is expert enough to be qualified to venture such an opinion.

This watch has no investment value to me, just eager to get it based on it good looks.
However I will not want to overpay as I am a vintage dummy (not much information online unfortunately)

Then maybe somebody should RE-WRITE the official forum rules to reflect this and end this quandary once and for all, NO? This debate is getting old and stale...

    16. Valuations. Watchuseek does not offer valuations, nor do we recommend trying to have your watch valued online. Assessing the value of a watch is dependent on many factors, most of which require qualified persons having access to the watch directly. While members may provide their opinions as to the value of a watch, these are purely their opinions and do not represent WUS.

    Dear Moderator:

Please remove or close this thread.
Its never my intention to cause any tension through heated discussion.
Just a vintage dummy here curious about the value of a watch (of course I understand to that all opinion on value are subjective and Not to be taken as an professional valuation).

There is no conflict with the global WUS rules in this regard. Old and stale debate is generated when people fail to appreciate that the sub forums have different requirements.

It's perfectly acceptable in nearly all of the other sub forums for members to offer opinions on pricing since it is much easier to price modern and recently issued watches. And therefore it would be entirely inappropriate to modify the global WUS rule.
    bobbee and DragonDan like this.
