    Certina/Grana

I find myself suddenly drawn to this marque and am trying to educate myself.

Does anyone know when the label for Certina went from script to block lettering? They seem to be using script in the 40's and block with the little round logo by the 60's, but I haven't seen enough of the late 40's through 50's to note the change yet.

Also, the Swatch Group website says that the Grana name started phasing out slowly in the late 40's. Does anyone know when it was finally gone?

It appears that this company didn't use serial numbers in the way that most did. Many of their movements are documented, but they seemed to make enough that some are not. I like to know what I'm looking at.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows more about this company.

    Have you found this site:

    http://www.vintagecertinas.ch/en/indexeng.html ?

I have a few Certinas, but know less than you seem to already - and can't answer any of your questions. I hope someone else will know more.

It would be nice to see some of your watches.

Thanks guys, cool watches all around.

I don't own to show yet, but have seen a few and am doing my research. Chris, do you know if yours has a shock system or not? One of the ones I've been looking at looks like yours in the balance, but I haven't seen it in person. Most Certinas have Incabloc systems. Yours is definitely not Incabloc, but it looks like it might have a KIF like system. I'm guessing yours is from the 1930's. Very cool.

Merrick, yours seem thoroughly 60s to me and very cool.

"The Complete Price Guide to Watches" only has one Certina in it! What's that about?

I don't think mine has any shock system. I'll take a look at it tonight.

I own this Certina KF pocket watch..the letter Certina is still in script mode. That's why I bought it from my clock repairman when he offer it to me. Maybe the watch is not too old but it's quite thin and script letter interest me.

    Thank you so much
