    Constellation 168 0056 Crystal Question

I need to replace the crystal on this 1974 Constellation. Would anyone know if the original crystals on these were sapphire? And we're they signed like the older hesalite versions? I assume not. Thanks

I am still envious of that Omega Connie you found for the price of a big mac and some frys

    Such a nice looking watch.

I don't think Sapphire crystals were on Connies in those days. I am surprised that it has a mineral glass as mine had the Hesalite crystal. I don't know if the non plastic crystals have the Omega symbol in the middle of them like the plastic ones.

The good news is that you don't have find a Omega one(unless you really want one), you can have your watchmaker source a good generic one or source a sapphire glass one if you want it.

I like that era of Connie and think that watch is great looking. Yes that Deville is nice but I hate that style one piece case. My Deville is worn the least because I am afraid of losing that stupid crown

    Good luck

Re: Constellation 168 0056 Crystal Question

Thanks Journeyf. So you had Connie of this era with a hesalite crystal? I was assuming what I had in there now was original. (Not sure why I assumed that). Seems like a flat crystal belongs there. I'll probably just get a generic mineral. And I totally agree with you about the De Ville. I definitely am not a fan of one piece cases and split stems. I'm still struggling to get to the movement on the DeVille. The fragile crystal broke off when removing and is wedged in holding down the movement. And yet the watch is running fine. Trying to be patient.

Re: Constellation 168 0056 Crystal Question

The new OVD pages don't seem to have the complete information about these references, but in running a search, I happened to find this posted on a different forum (https://omegaforums.net/threads/1973...68-0056.45642/) and it indicates that the original crystal was mineral glass.

Edit: There are a lot of Omega crystals on eBay as well, but you need to know the part #.

I think yours is newer then mine.

Mine is from the late 1960's but I see that yours is from the early 1970's.

I guess they did switch to the mineral crystal.

Yours is much better looking then mine

That's a beautiful watch and I prefer that mechanism. But I do like the price of mine.
