CURIOUS TO READ ABOUT YOUR GEIGER COUNTER RESULTS

I know some of you have them and have probably tested lots of watches...

Would you share some of the things you've learned, like what's hot - what's not, maybe things that surprised you and also what instruments you have used?

My searches here got some results but they left me wanting to learn more.

    TIA,
    Cheers, Ed

I think requesting that someone respect basic protocols of communication is on-topic. The thread being started here has been visited and re-visited ad infinitum and so the OP might also consider searching the archive before asking a question comprehensively covered previously.

That’s a reasonable response. That’s not remotely in the same vein as what you posted yesterday though.

Now, get back on topic. If you don’t wish to answer something that has been covered before then please just move on.

Re: CURIOUS TO READ ABOUT YOUR GEIGER COUNTER RESULTS

I was trying to find a recent thread where someone actually posted a detailed account of measurements they made. I know it was within the past year, but I can't find it.

I have trouble using the forum search engine. I tried using Google and restricting it to the watchuseek domain, but I still didn't find the thread.

    There is this one: https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/a-littl...-radium.70060/
...and the links there in. Different forum site.

All that I know is based on the hard work and writing of others. I can only aspire to augment this body of knowledge. If I am wrong it is because of my own failings. To quote Newton, "If I have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

I seem to recall an extensive thread started by Border-Reiver some time ago…

Re: CURIOUS TO READ ABOUT YOUR GEIGER COUNTER RESULTS

I did this at my University using a state of the art geiger counter. For the most part the conclusion was most are safe but pocket watches although I didn't test them you may want to stay away from. I have also emailed a Radioactive specimen expert (he collects radioactive things) and he said watches are for sure safe but in LARGE collections you may want to keep them else where. Also, removing radium from the dials doesn't get rid of all the radioactivity, the daughters of radium remain but at minuscule levels, nothing to be worried about. https://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/rad...k-3800506.html

I certainly had quite a few postings and threads opened on the subject, but I don't want to repeat all that (can't even find it so quick). I can only suggest to go here (other keywords than 'radium' will provide more results):

After studying that, you can write two books on the matter.
