    Dial refinishing questions

Bought a Certina DS-2 a while back. It's a great watch and keeps very good time, however the dial is flaking and discoloured. I knew about this when I bought the watch and on the wrist you don't notice it too much. Since I put the watch on a watchadoo lumpy I've been thinking of getting the dial refinished if it's possible, so my questions are:

    1. Would it be possible to refinish the dial?
    2. Can anyone recommend someone to do this?
    3. How much would it cost roughly?

There's an ebay seller based in the Netherlands who has a constant stock of Certina dials but unfortunately he's never a DS-2 dial, that I know of.

Here's a few pics to show the dial as is:

If I can get the dail refinished I might get the case refinished as well, would it be sacrilige to get a brushed finish? Oh, and is it possible to repaint the hands?

Thanks for reading and sorry if this has been asked before.

    Cheers

    Gary

    Re: Dial refinishing questions

    Hi Gary,

here in Germany Bethge is quite known for dial refinishing:

Perhaps write an e-mail with your attached pics and ask for a quote.

However it only makes sense, if this DS-2 is something really special for you.
Economically it will be better to wear it as it is and to look for another one.

You might also try hear still to get an DS-2 dial:

    Cheers,

    Re: Dial refinishing questions

Thanks for the links Axel, much appreciated.

The watch doesn't have any emotional value for me, its just been nagging me as it could be improved considerably with a new/refinished dial. I suspect I'll keep an eye out for a dial or another watch that needs repairing but has a better dial. I've been given an estimate of €105+ for a refinished dial in the UK, as the watch didn't cost me that, its not worth it. Looks like I'll be paying regular visits to sachsentimer.

I'm still jealous of your Argonaut 280 BTW, such a lovely watch. If you find another one like that and don't want it for yourself, please let me know.

    Cheers

    Gary

    Re: Dial refinishing questions

Refinishing dials is a very difficult work as I have understood and more difficult yet to get a real fine work, I would look for another dial in good shape, it is going to be cheaper and you will have a watch more authentic.
