Did I do good or get TAKEN, another flea market adventure

Bought this vintage chrono for $300 at Tulsa Sat. Flea Market. Face only says 17 RUBIS INCABLOC and smal SWISS, Case back International Watch Co. Edition SAINT EXUPERY,
Movement just has 17 Jewels, swiss made, Marvin. Case is 42mm. I haven't been able to find it in my books and I am haveing some doughts if it is an IWC.Runs and functions perfectly

It's not IWC, the movement looks like a landeron and is signed Marvin
so would presumably have come from a Marvin.
I doubt if the case or even case back is genuine I.W.C, possibly from
a cheap replica, who knows how such creations come to be.

Well, the movement is a Landeron, probably cal. 248:

...and the staining on it shows that it isn't exactly new. The rest of the watch is relatively spic and spam and doesn't really match the movement either in style or condition. It looks as if it originally came from a Marvin. The whole thing most certainly isn't an IWC "Saint Exupery" pilot chrono, which should look rather mor elike this:

IWC Fliegeruhr Chrono-Automatic 3717 Edition Antoine de Saint Exupéry

I'm sorry to say that, all in all, 300 bucks seems a little over the top for that.

    Well - I think the movement is a Landeron - possibly 148:

As its marked 'Marvin', I would guess its out of a Marvin. I don't know much about IWC - but I'd have expected to see IWC on the dial. There are a lot of IWC replicas about. I'd say 'taken,' I'm afraid. But others may know more.

Edit - if Hartmut thinks 248, he's probably right.

That's definitely not an IWC. They never used Landeron movements. Sorry to say, but you got hosed. That happens when you roll the dice at a flea market. Sometimes you crap out, other times it's all 7's.

I think the case, back and pushers may be from the IWC but the dial and landeron stuck inside...which makes it a 'franken'

Personally, I doubt that even the case is original IWC. The picture on the back isn't crisp enough, the limited edition serial number above the "International Watch Company" is missing, the overall quality looks dubious. Also, the case should house a Valjoux 7750 at 7.9mm thickness - once you put a Landeron manual chrono inside, you either need to fix it well or it will rattle around a lot!
