    Different movements in affordable chronographs

I'm on the lookout for a nice affordable chronograph and while browsing the interwebs I can see that some movements are frequently being used. I've tried to Google around but can't find if there's some of them that stands out, either in a good or bad way.

The ones that seems to be most frequent are:

    Venus 188
    Landeron 48/148/248
    Valjoux 7733/7734
(and sometimes Landeron 39 or 51)

Are all of these considered as equal or is there any of them to prefer over the others?

And surely I might have missed a movement that should be considered

People certainly have preferences, and sometimes strong opinions, but to be honest, I think that as long as you have them serviced by a competent watchmaker, any of those movements should give you satisfactory performance. For what it's worth, the Landeron 48 family was almost universally used in inexpensive entry-level chronographs, while the Valjoux 7730/7733/7734 was sometimes used by high-end brands. That doesn't make them better movements, but they can be found in more valuable and collectible watches, if that matters to you.

Guess that the Landeron 39, as a column wheel chrono, is the best of the bunch.
