    Difor Chronograph help?

Hi there all - I've been slowly reading up on older chronographs after falling in love with the looks of the Sekonda and have a bit of a penchant for lesser known brands.

Was reading up on some recent threads here and someone linked to this Etsy store and I immediately loved this little Difor chronograph with a Landeron 149 movement in it.

Still learning though what to look for and what to watch out for the - the seller calls out that it's been relumed though says it was done in the 70's with a service which I find interesting. Any help in determining if this is an okay buy or not is greatly appreciated :)

I'm a sucker for black dials...

$50 usd would be a nice price indeed...

North of 300 certainly becomes rather questionable.

Is that a dog or bunny in the background?

How can we tell you if it is a good buy if we don't know the price? Do you want us to go to etsy and start searching, or would you like to make it a little easier on us?

Ok, perhaps you were trying to avoid posting a link, but since you didn't give a price, I had no choice.

    Asking price is $470.

    Re: Difor Chronograph help?

Nothing terribly wrong with this watch and it's nice looking overall. It's an entry-level vintage chronograph (i.e. Landeron movement, gold-plated), but it has some desirable attributes, including the 36mm size and the black gilt dial. It looks pretty much original, with the possible exception of the crown. The major flaw is the serious brassing on the lugs. It's hidden in some of the photos, but in others you can really see how severe it is.

For me, the price is ok if you really believe it was recently serviced. If you don't believe it was serviced, then the price is about $200 too high in my opinion.

Ah, sorry - I had the link here and must have deleted it when I was adding pictures. Thanks for adding in!

Yep asking price is $470, seller says its been recently serviced but would want to know more about that.

Same on being a sucker for black dials. I found another similar one on Ebay here - the translate makes it sound like the the pusher doesn't restart on this one, maybe thus the lower price?

Was looking at Landeron 149 movement prices as well and seems like these are going for ~$80 - $100.

I'm definitely still figuring out what to look for in these so wasn't sure if this was actually in ok condition

Thanks again for the views and replies - really appreciated while I'm reading up and learning what's what :)

Look at the lugs in this photo and you can see that the plating is completely removed from the ends of the lugs (about half the length of each lug). In other photos, you can see similar brassing on edges of the bezel. Some people don't mind this, but it significantly affects the value, so you shouldn't over-pay.

In this photo, you can see that the gold plating is completely removed from the side of the case, with bare base metal showing through. Are you ok with this?

Ah! I see what you mean and makes sense. I had noticed the sides but not the lugs here. Thanks for pointing it out here. More to think on then...
