Question Dug up an.. I think it was a pocket watch

    Hi all,
Just registered because I've got this burning question, and google hasn't given me the answer as it usually does. I've googled for over half an hour, but can't find anything similar.
So, I was digging/metal detecting at a place where a monastery has been since the 1200's, in the Netherlands. Then, I found this:

    Name: zakhorloge.jpg
Views: 109
Size: 284.2 KB

I do think I've taken the photo 90 degrees rotated.. the mouth of the smiley was I think the left side. But I have no idea what this was. The spring and size (4cm diameter I guess) makes me think it's part of a pocket watch..

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Watchuseek. That is a pin lever movement of so cheap a quality that it was probably not meant to be taken apart for servicing. A real one-way "dollar watch" movement (i.e. for use in watches that cost only a dollar in the very old days so that even the poor could afford one). It reminds me a little of Westclox (the watch maker) but could equally well have been made by some other maker. Here is an example of a similar (but not identical) movement:

    Hi Hartmut,
Thanks for the swift reply. It already looked so extremely basic compared to everything else, I already presumed it would've been cheap at the time. I'd still love to find out what make it was, and a time estimate. It looks freakishly cool like an alien artifact.. so I might turn it into a cool pendant.
