    E. Howard series III

I just wanted to show my E. Howard series III from the second half of the 1860'ies. Any others having an early E. Howard they would like to share?

The balance looks as big and heavy as possible to fit in this N size. About 16 size? Big gold adjuster screws. Wonder why? I suppose for accuracy. Maybe a need for frequent application of whale oil for long pivot life. Wonder how many running hours there has been and how many yet attainable without new parts? My father had one 992 Hamilton for nearly 50 years. It was not regularly serviced and the present better oils were not available. It was expected to work with out preventive maintenance and it did. I suppose it needed repair work some times.

Series VII size N and by the way size N is equivalent to size 18. Not exactly equivalent as E. Howard sizes were a law unto themselves and special sized cases had to be used.

N size E. Howard is having pillar plate diameter of 1 13/16", slightly bigger than normal 18s which is 1 23/30".
Good to see Mike and Ron joining in.
