The ebay seller claimed this was serviced, And It Was!!!!

Just got this in today. The seller was asking $85 with a b/o and I offered $70. Says it was dismantled, cleaned and serviced. The movement pic isn't the best representation of it but this is very very clean and seems to be running very nicely. A 1975 Bulova with a nice 1974 17j AOACD movement.

Don't want to rain on the parade and the movement does appear pretty clean but the only acceptable evidence of a service is the receipt. I have plenty of old watches that are clean and run but have not been serviced or opened in decades. For 85$ and running I guess it's not too bad, just hope it lasts.

I hear your point!! I have also opened some old watches and seen clean movements. This is very clean inside and out. The caseback only has one service mark in it. I'll have to look at it again but along with the repairmans code numbers, looked like a date of 2014.

It's the first one I've ever seen with a date.

Hellol! It can be a bit tricky to determine if a watch really has been CLEANED...a quick check which I use, is to see if there's an oil 'bubble' on the balance cap jewel...although I've seen more than a few watches with a bubble that needed to be cleaned ( the bubble was still there, but the rest of the poor oil had dried-out years before...!), one should never not see a bubble on a watch that has been cleaned: the capillary action that creates the oil reservoir I'm calling a bubble, really must be present to afford lubrication for the balance pivots! And: nice Bulova...I think I see a bubble, too!!

Re: The ebay seller claimed this was serviced, And It Was!!!!

Hi, guys! My name is Yuriy. And I'm the the guy, the watch was bought from.
I'm amateur watchmaker. So don't do this for profit. Just to cover my expenses on materials (and for extending my tool inventory).
It is why my work so inexpensive (compensating by a lot of fun) LOL
Bought that time piece on eBay other day. Serviced this late August. Put it on eBay. And here we are.

I thought about marking the cover inside with the date of service before. But was in doubt. Thought collectors don't want the part will be compromised that way.
Apparently I was wrong. Did I? If so, I'll adopt that practice from your suggestions. Having date of last service with in the watch is not a bad idea indeed.

    BTW,
The watch went standard cleaning/oiling routine: cleaned in ultrasound bath, washed in cleaning solution, rinsed in final rinse solution, dried, assembled, oiled, regulated.

In case anyone has one similar, Bulova named this one the "Golden Clipper".

    Yuriy –

You didn't adjust it to five positions and temperature?

    Very
    disappointing.
