    Elgin Automatic

    Hi all, here is a Elgin Automatic I picked up, it's pretty much brand new, I put on the GP watch band , thought it looked more vintage LOL anyhow hope you enjoy, any info on this watch would come in handy. It's off to the watch maker for a oiling.

    That bracelet looks great on it. Looks to be a later 1960s Elgin. That "E" logo was after 1965 and makes it hard to date.
    "The original Elgin National Watch Company made watches from 1867 until around 1965 (almost 100 years). Another plant in South Carolina continued to "make watches" until around 1968, but I believe that after 1965, they were just placing Swiss movements in cases and selling them under the Elgin name."

    Difficult! If it still has an Elgin Cal. 760 or 761, it will be quite special. The only ever American rotor winding automatic movement - and one of high quality..... However, it may well just have a Swiss movement (I once picked up a trashed Elgin with Adolf Schild Cal. 1701).

    It is a Swiss movement as it turns out! too bad, anyhow it contains a TRADITIONS automatic 17 jewel unadjusted, it is rose color like most better Swiss movements are. If my camera was working I would include a pic, anyhow I'll pick up another better camera soon so I can start posing some pictures. Thanks for your comments.
