Elgin military pocket watch G.S. Mark II

A pair of 1942 military pocket watchs from my collection that I'd like to share with you.
Elgin G.S. Mark II (High grade Army issue pocket watch) were commissioned by Great Britain(GS meaning “General Service”)
from U.S.A. . The black enamel dial has radium markers
and the British War Ministry’s broad arrow and inventory number engraved on the back.
They have a screw down back in order to protect the movement during rough use and still work like a champ

Is there a significance to the "I" under the broad arrow?

Ah, those are the 9j models! AFAIK, Elgin only made the 9j watches for military use. And the serial number puts it smack in the middle of WWII. And a pair of them! Very, very cool!!!
