    Elgin nickel watch

Trying to learn about collecting. I'd appreciate comments about this watch. Does it look original. Re-dial? Franken?

According to the 2015 Complete Price Guide to Watches, this is a 1929 Legionnaire. Have I identified this correctly?

Thank you. Interesting. If I have it identified correctly, the price guide says '15j', which I believe means 15 jewels.

Looks to me like someone "sandpapered" the crap out of the case back!!!

That doesn't appear to be normal "wear and tear"................

Quite possibly an attempt at removing an engraving. Things happen to case backs- often the work of a coarse nylon strap, but this is different, and I agree with simpletreasures, that it might indicate someone's fully intentional interference with the watch, with sandpaper being the possible tool of such an interference.
