    Elgin Watch Co. New Addition

My father had this watch sitting in a drawer for years. He passed away in 2002 and the watch remained in the drawer. I pulled it out today and she still runs great! Unbelievable! From my research the watch is from 1900 and was almost $100 back then. Anybody have any ideas on its worth?

Have you checked the Elgin watch database?

Beautiful pocket...in terms of value would say priceless in terms of beauty but interns of price I would say only £100-£130...unless case is gold and depends on Karat...I personally wouldn't sell it as its all perfect...! Your a very lucky person!

The watch has a low end 7 jewel movement. Without seeing the engraving on the inside of the case back can't tell you if it's gold filled or solid gold. If solid gold it has some value. I would not run the watch as I note the regulator is shoved over to one side, probably needs a cleaning and lube that might cost more than the watch is worth.

Thanks for the replies! I have no intention of selling it, but wondering if a old watch like this can be serviced? I wouldn't want any parts replaced if possible. Forgive my ignorance, is it even a good idea to service? Or better to leave as is and not run it? Obviously being a WIS i'd love to have it running like it was new in 1900.

I have checked the database but I doesn't give me any details on the case

The inside markings on the lid will give you the case manufacturer. Back then the movement company and case company were separate. I have an Elgin with a Dueber Special case. Others have different cases.
