    Emblem on older Zodiac?

I have had this Zodiac watch in the drawer for some time. I am curious to know what the N with a star emblem on the dial is in reference to. I have searched the internet with no luck. Anyone care to take a guess? Thanks.

I have a nasty feeling that it means that the watch isn't real! "Zodiac" and emblem in the bottom half of the dial, printed in somewhat faded writing suggests to me that this is a no name watch that someone upgraded a litte. A picture of the movement would tell us more.

Thanks I have added a picture of the movement (sorry so bad, used my Iphone). Looks to be an FHF but I can not make out the cal. number. 96 maybe?

It is vaguely reminiscent of the Minnesota North Stars logo, but not quite right. Could be an earlier version of the logo, but not 100%
I've got more Converse sneakers than watches, but it is a close race.

Thanks TheJohnP. I was checking the history of the Minnesota Northstars and you are right. Just not quite like it. However, in searching I found I link to sports logos. I believe that this might actually be an alternate Navy Midshipmen Logo..

Really interesting...perhaps a limited production run for the Naval Academy. Do you know where the watch came from?

I purchased it this summer at a flea market near Louisville, Ky. No markings on the case that helps either.

Have you tried contacting the Naval Academy...I'm sure they have a department that deals with historical items and such. Would be interesting to know the story behind your watch.

The movement is indeed an FHF (Fabrique d'Horlogerie Fontainemelon) Cal. 96:

As for whether Zodiac ever used this, I don't know. It is a high enough grade movement and Zodiac did use generic calibres. Still, the overall look of the watch makes me suspicious. Does the movement have "Zodiac" engraved on it?
