Enicar Ultrasonic 17 Jewels - not looking good

I took a gamble on this one but the history of Enicar and their movements along with the patina got me.

So far it does not work, winds ok but nothing so far. I will contact the seller about it but there's also a few other things I will let those of you with the trained eye catch.

My only question is what year can this one be from? Is it worth having serviced? Thank you!

This is all circumstantial, but I would guess early 1950s, based on the fact that I believe the "ultrasonic" name started in the 1950s, but that movement doesn't appear to be shock protected.

When a watch isn't running at all, it could need much more than just servicing. I'm not sure what patina you are referring to; the dial isn't too bad, but the brassing on the lugs is pretty terrible IMO.

I will get some more pictures in better lighting. The broken movement retaining screw and bent crown were especially disappointing. Definitely a sign of someone being where they shouldn't be.

Exactly, seller is willing to take it back which is good but it is certainly not what I was expecting. It's the risk we take but I certainly want an Enicar in the collection.

The ' Enicar ' signed through the planet Saturn and the 4 leaf clover case back dates it pre 1962 / 63. The lack of a sweep seconds hand and the dauphine style metal un lumed hands says 1955 ish to me.
Try to encourage the movement to start by not shaking it but by swinging the watch side to side as if you were throwing a frisbee ( but don't let go ! ).
If it doesn't start , then try the frisbee action again, but this time in the direction of the seller - and do let go
Hope you didn't pay more than £ 20.00 for it.
    Good luck

Well I went to grab it and do the frisbee motion. In this one case the nerve damage has been a plus. I dropped the watch on the soft carpet and it started ticking away! I will remember the frisbee motion and the seller has been very cooperative.

I did get it at a fairly low price and the effort to box it up and pay for shipping back is worth me keeping it and they will give me some money back.

    Just an update

With some time getting serviced and a replacement balance cock I can say all is well. My watchmaker took his time to find the correct balance cock. With a new black lizard strap and deployant clasp it is a joy to wear.

It's light and flat which is very comfortable. During a conversation tonight I realized it is a loud ticker. I will be keeping this one for many years. I am glad this one will survive.

    Couple pictures in different lighting

Looks great. Seems like a good fit on your wrist too. What size is it?

Thanks! Case is 35mm and I think it being so flat makes it look wider.
