    A quick update.

I was on a flight from Tampa to Texas when the crystal on the watch popped off due to the air pressure. It was pretty wild (a first for me). Anyway, I decided the crystal was probably old and had degraded over time to the point the seal was no longer reliable. I ordered a new genuine Omega crystal from Otto Frei for this case number, and had WUS member YuiryV install. YuiryV confirmed the previous crystal was generic, which might explain the crystal not being a great fit under pressure (in addition to age).

I got it back today, and it is ticking away on my wrist.

Great deals to be sure! Wow! Buy a lotto ticket? :)

I have a 23 Jewel, similar model as yours but white dial. I quite like it for the style and accuracy/consistency. They can look quite sharp.

The date codes starting with L are 1950's, with digit indicating the year. E.g. L7 for '57. You may find the code on the case back and also on the movement though you may need to move the automatic rotor around to find it.

I am 99.5% certain those are radium hands. I ran across a Bulova advert mentioning this for a similar vintage 23 Jewel while researching use of radium on my '55 Senator (my 23 has solid hands)

Azkid, thanks for the info. I am nearly 100% certain the hands are lumed with Tritium, as denoted by the "T Swiss Made T" below 6:00. My watch likely dates to 1968-70, by which time Radium had been phased out for use in watches.

    Cheers

Most likely whoever installed the generic crystal did not install the tension ring from the old crystal on the replacement crystal. Omega uses this to keep the crystal tight. That is that shiny metal thing going around the inside of the crystal

Nice looking watch and yes the hands and dial markers are tritium
