    ETA 2452 hard to wind

I had fully serviced last year a 1960's gold watch with an eta 2452 21 jewell movement and have worn it almost every day since. Love it. It loses about 90secs a week which I reckon is good and has a reserve of app. 32 hrs.
The one concerning issue is that if I let the watch run down I sometimes find that if I set the time and endeavour to give it a few winds it is very stiff to impossible whereas if I set the time ,give it a few shakes, wear it for an hour then try to wind it is smooth and easy!
Is this something not to worry about or should I take it back .The 12 month warranty is almost up.

If the power reserve is 32h, it means that it runs 10 hours shorter than it should after being fully wound. Some automatic movements tend to be messed up easily by manual winding, so this might be the case here.

    Hi there,

movements with not detached manual-wind gear generally wind a little hard, already new or freshly serviced. The high transmission ratio between rotor and mainspring makes the reversers spin idle at high speed if the watch is manually wound, and when the lubricants in them become sticky, manual winding becomes hard enough to damage the manual-wind gears.

So better spend a service for your watch before killing it.

Thanks for that .I assumed that as it is 50 odd years old anything over 30 hrs would be good

But didn't you had it serviced just last year? If that's the case I would find a different watchmaker this time.
