    Eterna Matic

Got this watch on ebay for 50 dollars. One of the movement hold downs and screws were missing in the back and luckily I had one in my parts bin that worked. From the serial number I think its from 1959 or so. The number on the case back is not the same as the movement but its close so probably an early replacement movement from when the watch was newer? No matter to me though I am enjoying the watch. 35mm wide not counting the crown. Also is it normal for one side of the case to have drilled lugs for the spring bars and solid on the other side?

The numbers on case and movement are not expected to be the same, just in a similar range. Looks all good to me.

The only time I tend to see matching numbers are on different parts of the case, e.g. case-back and lugs.

I have an Eterna-matic with the same case and the lugs are drilled on one side only as well.

To be honest, that is quite a gap between the case and movement serials. The case if from 1959, the movement - from 1963. Would be a good idea to contact Eterna about that (provide them with both serials).

I didn’t realize the time difference was so large. Four years is long enough to suspect a replacement.

    Case is 4356662

    Movement 4330307

In case picture is not perfectly clear. I had to use a magnifying glass to see.

Maybe Glenn Schuler knows what happened with the back. Look him up in the yellow pages. Frankly, I think it's a nice
watch anyway, and for $50, I'd just enjoy it. At least it's an Eterna back, so worse things could have happened.

    Re: Eterna Matic

    Hi there,

cases and movements were produced (and numbered) separately on stock, and put together after demand. And as occasionally naked movements were sold, the movement number is by average higher. But not always: Popular case designs were taken directly from production and equipped with movements from stock, and then it happened that the case number wás higher.

Unfortunately Eterna can't provide more detailled informations, because they recorded sales after the case numbers.

    Regards, Roland Ranfft

I had one exactly like it, where the dial was similarly heavily damaged - Nice watch, but it looked to rough for my taste, so it went on ebay too:)
