This watch started life as an Omega pocket watch and has been converted into
a wrist watch, with newly painted dial and spurious regulator layout.

Thanks for the info, i was thinking it was a pocket watch conversion.
In general are these things a good or bad investment, not counting their aesthetic appeal?

I wouldn't think they are a good investment, they have no interest to the collector and
are really unsuitable as a wristwatch.

This one actually steps over the line into illegal; the dial is not "signed" omega, it's illegally pretending, and I made a point of reporting that one to the swatch group. Its one thing to solder lugs onto a pocket watch case and claim its an "original" case, but creating a dial from scratch and calling it a "signed" dial is a bit much.

    Hi admins,

isn't it possible to implement a smiley like this for such items?

Someone's bought one of the very common Ukranian fakes and they're trying to unload it.
