Felsa 693 bidynator watch... too good to be real?

    Hallo everybody,

    sorry for my bad english.

I was looking for a wristwatch, annual calendar, with moon phases, automatic... and affordable for me.

I found the one you can see in the attachment.

What do you guys think about it?

As you can see the label says "Trematic Geneve", and I couldn't find anything about this company, maybe anyone here can help me.

The seller claims it is a Felsa 693, and he says everything in the watch is original from 1970s. He also says the watch runs perfectly.

I was looking for an annual calendar since december, and I've found nothing under $800... 'till now.

It seems too good to be real.

I will find any piece of advice very useful, because I'm a noob, as you can notice.

    Thank you all in advance.

Trematic was a swiss registered brand in the 40s/50s.

Thread moved to the more suitable forum.
    Kind regards

    Thank you, Mike.

I also would like to know why it is so cheaper than other watches with same or comparable features...

Not sure what you mean by "Annual Calender". This isn't, as far as I know (and I could be wrong) a "perpetual" calender, if that's what you mean. It's a fairly simply triple-date pointer with moonphase; all of that is just dial-side modifications running off the canon pinion. Generally speaking, with vintage watches, you pay for the name, and this one doesn't have a much of a name. So all you're paying for is the movement. WHich, in this case, is a very desirable, but only by people who actually care about movements.

I've seen that brand a few times, it is definitely not common. That does not mean it is of poor quality. That Felsa movement has a jewel on the winding rotor, to my eyes, that means the manufacturer cared about quality.

It looks proper to me, from a cursory viewing of the photos you've provided.

I'm sorry my english is not as good to enable me to comprehend exactly what you mean. You mean that the user have to set the month (or the date) manually, AbsolomRob?
    Thank you.

(Of course I do not care about the name, btw)

Re: Felsa 693 bidynator watch... too good to be real?

    Hi guys!

Actually I was just doing some research on the Felsa 693 movement at the moment and this thread came up through google... Anyways, what you understood from it, is what basically AbsolomRob means. But you are right that there is a complication like an annual calendar, which is in "noob" words like a perpetual calendar, but without leap year. That means that you have to correct the date on the 1st of March - once a year. In this case you'd probably have to, at least, set the date each month that hasn't 31 days. This is what you'd call a triple-date. If you look closely on the photos, you can see small pushers on the side of the case from both sides. Those are for adjusting day, date, month and moon phase. These movements can be found in watches with various different names, most of them you'd probably hear for the first time. There had to be many watches with this movement as it was introduced in early 50's and if your seller gives correct info, were made until 70's. Once more I have to agree with AbsolomRob, in this case you are not buying the name on the dial, but the movement which was Felsa's most complicated caliber based on bidynator - their first automatic movement patented in 1947. Pretty good, if you take that at that time, only Rolex and Eterna was producing automatic watches, that it is as far as I know. Hope this helps a bit and also that I am not too wrong, if so, someone please correct me. Regards, Simon.
