First Zodiac. Grab bag find! Help?

Found my first Zodiac the other day in a bag of watches for $15. Runs nicely, quite dirty but looks like it will clean up amazingly. It's really just the crystal thats banged up. The case still has the factory finish on the bezel and has never been polished, dial is original, as is the crown. Overall a great watch but I know nothing about it! I assume 1960s? Also, I tried for the life of me to get it open but it does not budge. My case knife is useless, there's notch on the case back to pop it off but as I said I can't get it and don't want to scratch anything up too badly. I found one other example online that sold on Ebay but it was a clear redial and they claimed it was a divers watch? But it's not is it? Anyone seen this Zodiac before? Finally it came on this gnarly strap, probably been on there for a longg time as the amount of verdigris was A LOT.

I would like to see a side shot. Just by looking at the back, it looks like this movement comes out the front. Quite possibly a split-stem and have to remove the crystal. I may be wrong, so wait till someone who knows answers.

I think it's a cool watch. I believe the balance symbol on the caseback indicates a 10k gold filled case. No clue other than that. Love to see inside when you get it.

The watch cleans up nicely. The bezel is quite interesting and the movement is nice bidfun-db Archive: Watch Movements: Zodiac 72 with an enhanced precision regulator

Very nice Zodiac Datographic! In 1966 Zodiac catalog this model listed on Datographic section as Sultan 1758.
It is not diver model. Just costume watch. Love this model due its distinctive brushing pattern on dial.
Standard 70-72 movement with date complication. Should have hacking second feature.
The rubber gasket on case back deteriorated completely, as you can see that black matter everywhere.
Case needs to be cleaned and requires a new gasket. Otherwise moisture will penetrate inside easily.
The movement looks healthy. Just cleaning and proper lubrication.
Does it wind manually? Often stiff winding is a typical issue for this caliber.
Other potential problem for 70-72 is loose cannon pinion. When second hand runs, but minute and hour hands don't.
First symptoms of it is very low resistance when setting the watch. Minute and hour hands set very easily.

It is normal. When time goes, lubrication evaporates, amplitude drops. And watch is begun gaining. People are trying to pare this by regulator.
Movement is still healthy. But needs cleaning and lubrication.

    +1.
If the owner plans to wear it regularly, service is needed ASAP.
