    Fortis - Saddam Hussein

    Hi All,

I am a relative newbie but I have a keen interest in watches both old and new.
I came across this oddity and wanted your thoughts.
Is it worth getting and is it rare. What is a fair value of the watch?

I also found a reference where an Eterena watch was done with the same style (An Iraqi Eterna: A Thoughtful Gift From Saddam Hussein to His Commanding Officers)

I couldn't comment on this watch but you should be aware that some sellers have a habit of having war related pictures added to watch dials in the hope if adding value to otherwise ordinary watches.

Thanks for your comment. This is from an old man selling it, claims it was a reward for 20 years work in Iraq. He's not asking much for it at all about £50

There are currently over 50 saddam-hussein wrist watches on EBay. Different makers, different case materials, ladies and gents

They peersonalized a lot of better brand watches but most have a text and not a picture of Saddam. I came across a very nice Longines watch with praise to Saddam but I just couldn't bring myself to buy it.

I would not care to own a watch with Saddam Hussein's picture on it.

    @ surfrider: +1

One could as well buy one of those oddities from Eastern Europe with a portrait of the first Chancellor of the Third Reich on it

    Hi and welcome
These style of 'campaign' watches are very common.
I think £50 for Saddam is quite high and you could find cheaper.
You will find most 'political' peoples pictures on these 'campaign' pieces.

I am not particularly keen on the Saddam portrait either. I am just trying to keep a keen eye on rarities and always on the lookout for a vintage watch.
In terms of the branding, it's a fortis and surely it has some quality but then again...
