NOT MY AUCTION Example:
Frey Swiss gents watch ETA 900 40's runs & keeps time on eBay.ca (item 230550070319 end time 15-Nov-10 17:59:08 EST)
Does anyone know anything about vintage Swiss watches labelled simly "Frey" and usually from the 1920s through 1960s? A local collector told me that he believes these were watches produced by Andre Frey, the infamous chief behind Minerva.
The perpetually low prices for Frey watches on the big auction sites would seem to say otherwise, particularly as Minerva has a rather high value these days. If there was any relation between Frey (the brand) and Frey (the man), what was it? Was the brand a lower-end or budget version of the flagship? Was the Frey brand just somebody trying to piggy-back on the cache of the name?
And if there is no relation to Minerva, are these watches any good? How's the construction, the movement, the value?
There is almost no information anywhere on the web regarding this brand. Thanks for any info people can share.
